b'Session HighlightsNew Class ReceptionGovernor Calvert House, Annapolis | March 13, 2023The Class of 2023 convened for the first time during a lively gathering at the historic Governor Calvert House in Annapolis. Following opening remarks by Kenneth L. Ken Brannan 05 (LM) and Board Vice-Chair Jean C. Accius, Ph.D. 14 (LM), Hon. Jacob R. Jake Day 15 warmly welcomed the new class members by relating his fondest memories from his time going through the program in order to inspire the Class of 23 as they begin their journey. David A Fike 16 (LM), Leadership Marylands President & CEO, closed out the program with a special welcome of his own. The audience of Board members and Leadership Maryland graduates offered a rousing toast to the new class as their year of learning and discovery was formally launched.OrientationCambria Ocean City Bayfront, Ocean City, MD | April 20-21, 2023The class year officially began with two days of introductions, group activities, and briefings from leadership. President and CEO David A. Fike 16 (LM) kicked off the program with an official welcome and overview of Leadership Maryland, giving the class a sneak peek of what to expect over the next eight months. Facilitator Rene M. Winksy 05 (LM) led the class through their first full day of programming as the group completed a series of thought-provoking exercises exploring the many facets of leadership. The first day concluded with a relaxed cocktail reception at the Cambria overlooking the bay. The second day of orientation began with a presentation from Daraius S. Irani, Ph.D. 16, Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and Applied Research, Towson University. Dr. Irani provided an update and overview of the nations economy and how Maryland compares as the country continues to cope with inflation, workforce issues, and other challenges. Next, J. Thomas Tom Sadowski 11, Executive Director of the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) presented Innovative Solutions to Todays Challenges, highlighting MEDCOs efforts to support and grow Marylands economic vitality. The class was then broken into a Legislative Caucus and held a work session to discuss Marylands most pressing issues. After the groups presented the results of their discussions, the class participated in Speed Dating, Leadership Maryland Style, an exercise allowing them to continue meeting and learning more about their fellow classmates. www.leadershipmd.org27'
